When I checked for Bataase in the Asian stores….They were available packed in plastic containers. However on checking carefully, I noticed that more than half of Batase were crumbled in the container!! I dropped the idea of buying them. Instead decided to make them at home. Here they are slightly thin, but were good enough to offer to Goddess Laxmi last Diwali.
To make Batasa/Sugar drops you will need
1/2 cup sugar
Less than a 1/4 cup of water
Stir and let it simmer for 5 min in a pan. Once the syrup starts thickening add food colour of your choice. I added gel food colour. Stir continuously. Switch the gas off. Add a 1/4 tsp baking soda; spoon out the syrup into drops on a foil. Leave aside to cool and harden.
